Grow Compost of Vermont is transforming Vermont leftovers into a high grade, nutrient rich compost that puts healthy locally grown food back on the plates of Vermonters. The loop is closed as plate scrapings, coffee chaff and animal manures are made into richly dark soil amendments that nourish the plants that produce the vegetables and fruits we eat. Grow Compost of Vermont is a huge fan of the The Highfields Center for Composting. Check out their website.

JournalThirsty PlantsWe have experienced a long period of time without rain this month. Did you know that compost can help your lawns and flower beds withstand drought? One often overlooked aspect of gardening is the importance of Soil Organic Matter (SOM) and water holding. Did you know that soil with an SOM content of 5% will hold about 1.88 gallons of plant-available water in every cubic foot of soil? If your plant material did not fare well through this summer’s drought, getting some compost into your soil will help improve soil water-holding capacity and reduce drought damage. Grow Compost can help you to save money by implementing sustainable landscaping practices through the use of compost. We are open!Opening Weekend was wonderful. Our exceptional compost is now for sale to the public. Grow Compost is open Thursdays, Fridays, and Saturdays 8am – 6pm or by appointment. Please call us or stop by. We look forward to seeing you! |
